Maths first, career in IT, teaching now — properly.

I'm Greg. I studied maths at degree level, spent my working life in IT solving problems that maths underpins, trained as a teacher along the way, and now — retired from full-time work — I tutor because I enjoy it.

Qualifications & experience

1984BSc Mathematics — University of Manchester. A rigorous, traditional maths degree that still underpins how I explain topics today.
1989MPhil Computational Chemistry — Aberystwyth University. Applied mathematics and computing put to work on real scientific problems.
1989 – 2020sCareer in IT — Decades spent using logic, algorithms and quantitative thinking professionally, which shows up in how I teach problem-solving, not just formulae.
2004PGCE — University of Worcester. Formal teacher training in how students actually learn maths, not just what the syllabus says.
TodayWright Maths Tuition — Retired from full-time IT work, tutoring students from GCSE through to degree-level maths, in person around Leominster and online across the UK.

Safeguarding

Enhanced DBS check

I hold a current Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, the highest level available for those working with children. I'm happy to show the certificate to any parent or guardian before or during our first session, and I'm always glad for a parent to sit in on early lessons — whatever puts you at ease.

Every student starts with a short assessment so lessons target real gaps, not assumed ones.

Exam-board literate

I work from the specification and mark schemes for AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and IB, so revision time is never wasted.

Built for depth

At A Level, IB and beyond I love following the "why", not just the "how" — it's what makes maths stick and what separates a grade B from an A*.
